The Barcode System readies scanners and turns on "Ready" output to PLC, computer or controller. PLC or computer responds by feeding a label or product barcode and turns on barcode "Trigger" input. Alternately, barcodes are feed continuously with a sensor detecting items and generating the "Trigger" input. The system output changes state if an error is detected, allowing external logic and mechanism to stop, divert or alter feeding in response to the error. Barcode system reponds to external "Trigger" by turning off its "Ready" output and attempting to read barcodes. All active barcode scanners are triggered simultaneously. If all active scanners read a label or product barcode and find it equal to the Target code, the barcode system "Ready" output is immediately turned on, indicating that this group of barcodes is readable and equal to the Target code - a Good Read. The PLC, computer or control mechanism can then feed the next item or product barcode to continue the sequence. If one or more scanners does not read a barcode while the input trigger is asserted, the "Ready" output remains off and the operator display advises of "no read(s)" at specific scanners. The operator/supervisor is asked to clear the error(s) and report via the keypad. The system's "Ready" output remains off and should be interpreted by the PLC Computer or Controller as a signal to prevent feeding the next label or product barcode. If one or more scanners reads a barcode and finds it to be not equal to the Target Barcode, the "Ready" output remains off and the operator display advises of "bad code(s)" at the specific scanners. The operator is asked to clear the error and report via the keyboard before the "Ready" output is turned on and the PLC/Computer is allowed to continue. |
