Developers Software Available for iConnection

iConnection software is available in two parts:

Free Demonstration Software and the Software Development Kit

Send us an email with "request developers software" in the subject and we will send you the following software components, FREE! These iConnection components demonstrate "how to" read and write iButtons with Palm, PC and the Hot-Sync conduit using Scanning Devices libraries and MetroWerks Code Warrior.

Executable Programs for Palm OS

Button.prc - relatively simple program using Palm forms and fields to read and write text data and button ID's, displaying data on the Palm screen. This program demonstrates user interaction with theiConnection, use of Palm serial port and the iConnection command set.
tcButton.prc - program to support thermochron iButton. Illustrates use of Palm databases, tables to create and edit mission data, read and write mission data to buttons, store in Palm databases and display. Introduces Palm datatypes and their use in iConnection commands and iConnection libraries.

Executable Programs for PC

ThermoChronCond.dll - a conduit application extension to the Palm "Hot-Synch" manager to read and write data to the Palm thermchron database during hotsynch operation. This program illustrates the low-level conversion of Palm-to-PC datatypes and vice-versa. It delivers Palm generated data to tab delimited text files on PC and user generated PC files to the Palm database.
Thermochron.exe - dialog-based program to display palm data delivered by the conduit and prepare user data for writing to Palm and iButtons. This program also serializes Palm data for storage in PC files.
TempGraph.exe - document-based program which displays data serialized by dialog, graphs temperature data extracted from buttons, transferred by conduit and serialized by dialog.
SD32Install.exe - Conduit registration and unregistration program for use with Cond.dll and the Palm Conduit Manager. SD32Install is a console application which runs in the MS-DOS Shell.

Program Sources

ThermoChronCond.dll and SD32Install.exe are based on Microsoft Visual C++, Version 6, Standard Edition.
ThermoChron.exe and TempGraph.exe are based on Microsoft Visual C++, Version 6, Professional Edition.
Palm programs - button.mcp and tcbutton.mcp are based on Motorola-Metrowerks Code Warrior Release 6.

Can I read an iButton with this software?

With an iConnection , a probe, a Palm III Series and this software, you can read and write iButtons. Click here to see screen shots of these Palm OS applications.

Can I modify the sources to make my own application?

Probably not. You will need the iConnection Manager and thermoChron Manager Libraries to customize these sources. (However, you can develop applications which use iConnection commands directly without the libraries. Button.prc is an example of an application coded without using libraries.)
To get these libraries, you have to buy something from us. You have to admit that it has been all free up to now!.

iConnection Software Developers Kit (SDK)

The SDK includes iConnection Manager and Thermochron Manager. They perform Palm memory allocation, serial port managment, command construction and data conversion for programs which read and write iButton data. The Managers are consistent with the Palm OS development style and easily included in Palm projects as header files and libraries. The Managers allow the Palm OS Application Developer to handle the iButton as a Palm peripheral just like data memory or the screen.

The SDK also includes four demonstration projects of varying degrees of complexity. They have been selected to illustrate different techniques in building Palm OS applications for iButtons. The projects are described here. (Use the Back button on your browser to return here.)

SDK software requires MetroWerks Code Warrior Release 6 or higher. It also requires an iButton probe (RJ11 connector to iButton) and one or more iButtons available from Dallas Semiconductor. Several probe styles and iButton models are available.

The Software Developers Kit is available in three part numbers:

3301-DK (iConnection 3301A for Palm M100 Series, no Palm)
3303-DK (iConnection 3303C for Palm III series)
3305-DK (iConnection 3305m for Palm m125, m130, m500, m515 and i705)

Software is distributed on a floppy disk. The SDK consists of the following:

iConnection Manager - a Palm OS Library which can be linked to your Code Warrior project. Detailed documentation for this library can be found here.
thermChron Manager - a second Palm OS Library with specific functions and data types for the thermochron iButton. Include this library in your Code Warrior project if you are developing for the thermochron iButton. Detailed documentation can be found here.
iConnection 3305m, 3033C or 3301A - Hardware which clips on your Palm's serial port, accepts an iButton probe via RJ11 connector, receives commands from Palm and executes them to read and write iButtons attached to the probe.
