Scanning Devices tcButton's Palm OS Application Gets Palm'ed
June 12, 2001
Version 2 integrates the look, feel and function of the Palm into tcButton's iThermo Palm OS Application. Palm users will find iThermo Version 2 more like a Palm Application, easier and quicker to use.
Specifically:
- Use the Palm Calendar to select start and end times for Thermochron missions. Schedule a Mission as you would schedule an appointment, selecting the date and time to start and end. iThermo calculates the start delay and sample rate parameters for you. Alternately, if you enter start delay and sample rate parameters directly, iThermo calculates and displays the start and end date and time.
- Select your temperature units and save your selection with your Palm Preferences. iThermo supports both Centigrade and Fahrenheit and even allows you to switch back and forth between them. All temperature data is displayed with your preferred units, the axis of temperature graphs are labeled with the same units and mission parameters are selected and saved with your preferred units. Preference settings are accessed from the application's opening screen menu.
- Your Palm preferences also hold initialization values for New Missions. When you make a new Mission Database record, start with values you have stored in your Palm preferences. Constructing multiple missions with common parameters is now simple and fast.
- iThermo also uses your preferred Date and Time formats to display these variables as well.
- Use Palm's Find key to search for text in your Mission Database. Tap the Find icon on the Palm screen. Enter text at the prompt. Palm looks through all its databases and lists each item with a match. Tap on the list to display the item. iThermo responds to Find by searching for text in the iButton ID, Mission Number and Mission Name fields.
- Search the Palm Mission Database for a particular Thermochron button by attaching it to iConnection and tapping the Palm screen. iThermo reads the button serial number and finds it in your Mission Database.
- Beam data between Palms. With Mission Information displayed, use the Palm menu to beam the Mission record to another Palm's Mission Database. With the Mission Database List displayed, use the menu to beam your entire database to another Palm with tcButton installed. Receive Mission records or databases from other Palms as well.
- Switch between functions - read, edit, write, graph with a popup selection menu. Save a tap every time.
- Scroll the mission information table with an on-screen scrollbar. Advance a full page with the up and down scroll buttons.
- Graphically display the mission's high and low temperature alarms on the temperature graph so that you can easily see points where out-of-limit temperatures occured. Tap on the graph and open a small window display with Date, Time and Temperature of the data point you tapped.
- And finally, in response to the most popular user feedback: Consistent Button Placement - Save in the left corner, Back in the right corner.
And it's compatible with mission data generated in Version 1.
If you are a tcButton licensee, contact Scanning Devices for your copy of iThermo Version 2 for Palm OS. If you're not, why not?
