SD Tag Programmer with AlphaNumeric Coding for Alien Technology 9780 Reader

August 26, 2004
Updated: September 3, 2004

Alternative to hexidecimal for RFID development and demonstration

Scanning Devices has released SD Tag Programmer, a Windows dialog-based program used to program and read RFID tags with the Alien 9780 reader. It provides user controls for reading and programming, manipulating and interpreting tag data.

It also provides translation of tag binary/hexidecimal data to user defined alpha-numeric and numeric fields. This feature is effective for development, applications with user-defined codes and RFID demonstrations. Hexidecimal notion often confuses, as it combines alpha and numeric characters in ways not understood by many outside of the computer field.

Configuration and Project Manager for Alien Technolgy 9780 Reader

August 7, 2004
Updated: September 3, 2004

The Alien 9780 is a 4-antenna port, 915 MHz RFID tag reader/writer for EPC Class 1 tags. It is a new and complex device, offering features and configuration options typically found in serial peripheral devices, free-standing LAN nodes, programmable logic controllers, auto-ID readers and printers all in one unit. Setting up the proper configuration for the 9780 can be a challenge with more than 50 parameters in the 9780 setup menu. Think of the combinations.

Scanning Devices has released ReaderUIA, a Windows-based software tool that simplifies the configuration effort for developers using the 9780. The tool lets users load the configuration parameters from one or more devices, view them side-by-side for comparison or trouble-shooting, edit and save the configuration to a file. The settings can be extracted from files and loaded into a 9780 with a few keystrokes, allowing reliable distribution of configuration information to additional devices or remote locations.

ReaderUIA Version 1.1 is required for Alien Technology 9780 Readers Version 2.1.7 and above.
