SDK Installation Instructions

These instructions assume you have the SDK.

1. Locate the "MagStripeU.prc" in either the LinkedMagStripeU (linked library) or SharedMagstripeU (shared library) folder on this disk. You should find it by navigating to MagStripeU -> Obj -> MagStripeU.prc

2. Click on MagStripeU.prc. The Palm Install Tool should open and ask you which Palm to install this application on. Follow directions supplied by the Palm Install Tool.

If you are using the shared library, you will also have to locate the smagnet.prc file. You should find it by navigating to Libraries -> SharedMagnetLibrary -> smagnet.prc. Click on it to start the Palm Install Tool and duplicate step 2.

3. On your next hot-sync, the application should be installed on your Palm.

4. Look for the MagStripeU icon on your Palm's Application Launcher. Tap on it to start the application.

5. When application starts, you should see a blank screen for for magstripe data and three buttons.

6. Very Important: The Palm Menu is also active to launch the application setup preferences. Use the setup menu to tell the application which magnetic stripe reader you have and the format of the cards you want to read. These settings are stored in the application preferences and used until changed. The default preferences select 2500 series readers with ANSI standard format.

7. Clip on the 2500 Series Magnetic Stripe Reader. Tap * to initiate a test. The Palm should display "Reader Responded OK". Tap ? to transfer reader identification data. The Palm should display the reader model number and software version. If the Palm displays "No Response", the reader is not properly attached or is not working properly. Re-attach the reader and try again.

8. Tap on the screen with the corner of a card to start reading and then swipe the card right to left through the card guide with the magnetic stripe down. You should see the card data displayed on the screen.
